Can allergies & asthma affect my life? Anyone who has suffered from asthma and allergy symptoms knows how debilitating these diseases can be. It can cause problems at school, work, or recreation and negatively impact one's quality of life. By preventing a child from maximally performing during sports at school, or even limiting simple pleasures like running outside with friends or siblings, asthma and allergies can be problematic for many children. Uncontrolled allergies and asthma are known to lead to poor performance in the workplace and at school. Disruption in sleep at night because of a persistent cough, constant sneezing, nasal drainage, or congestion can lead to fatigue, and ultimately to poor concentration and performance in school or work. In Houston, allergy can be especially difficult because of the long allergy seasons and abundance of outdoor mold. In addition, pollens and dust mites can significantly contribute to symptoms experienced by Houston allergy sufferers. It's no wonder that in Houston allergy is as problematic as almost any place in the country to manage on your own.

How are allergies and asthma diagnosed? Often mistakenly diagnosed as recurrent colds, chronic cough, bronchitis, or sinus infections, allergies and asthma are sometimes not recognized at first glance. At Allergy & Asthma Care of Houston, our main goal is to correctly diagnose your problem and get you back to living an active and healthy life again. An Allergist, who is fellowship trained for at least two additional years beyond residency, implements special diagnostic tools for recognizing the problem and finding a reasonable solution. Blood tests for allergy have been shown to be less sensitive at diagnosing allergies as tests performed by us in the office. At Allergy & Asthma Care of Houston, our diagnostic technique is as gentle as having a ball point pen touch your skin. |
